Early Intervention

EI went well today. No therapists…they said at this point they don’t need any, but they are available if we would need them later on. What excited me was that they are 3 months old, but their adjusted age is 1 month (5 weeks to be exact). However they are doing everything that a normal 3 month old would do!! YEAH!!!

I feel…: happy

3 months old!!!

HOLY COW!! I can’t believe that my babies are 3 months old already!!

Daniel:
Daniel is my active one…he moves more kicks and swings his arms. He holds his head up very well. He’s about 11 ounces smaller than his brother. He smiles when you talk to him and when you slide your finger down his nose (well as long as he’s in a good mood to begin with). He’s finally latching on properly…that was a big issue from the beginning…he would latch on and slide to the end…OUCH! His face is starting to chub up. He’s so alert during the day and sleeps pretty well at night…only up maybe once a night! The doctor said he may have slight reflux…not too bad, just gets bad if he hasn’t been burped. He tends to spit up more than his brother. Something he will most likely grow out of. He loves to be bounced and sitting in the swing.

Andrew:
Andrew is more laid back. He’s content to just lay there and watch everyone. He also holds his head up very well. He looks so much chunkier with all those rolls of fat ;) He’s always latched on well, so no problems there. He has a blocked tear duct :( and they think a slight hernia :( , both of which they hope he’ll grow out of. He also has slight reflux…he seems to deal with it a lot better than his brother. He spits up once in a great while, but not often at all…then again his brother doesn’t spit up very often either. He smiles at you when you talk to him…giggles in his sleep, it’s so cute! He loves to be rocked, but will only sit in the swing for a little while.

They both love their brothers and will stare at them for as long as they can see them. They will follow you with their eyes and look as though they are intently listening to you when you talk to them. They grasp your finger when offered…if you don’t offer, they will grasp their blanket or your clothes or necklace…whichever is within reach! They make these noises when they are eating…makes mommy feel good!! They are outgrowing the newborn clothes and wearing the 0-3 months clothes…however they are bigger on Daniel than on Andrew.

Let me tell you, they both have these blueish gray eyes that can penetrate your heart! I’m so blessed!!

Twins are NOT double Trouble…they are double the blessing!!

I feel…: loved

NICU follow-up!

Our appointment went pretty well. Andrew weighs 8 pounds 12 ounces (up from 8 pounds 1 ounce last Tues)!! And Daniel weighs 7 pounds 14 ounces (up from 7 pounds 4 ounces)!! They said they are doing wonderfully!! They were asking if I had been referred to the Early Intervention program for the twins (which we have and have an appt on Friday). She said that they would be able to catch anything that might become a problem. She didn’t say much about about the nervous system…she did note that things are improving. We discussed the issues of the boys gasping and milk coming out their nose (this isn’t just after they eat…it seems to happen throughout the day…mainly when they sleep…not very often though)…I guess it’s a part of reflux. She said it sounds very mild and as long as things don’t get worse, they’ll probably grow out of it…but it’s not serious. She was a little concerned about Andrew…she thinks he might have a slight hernia…but again they can grow out of it. She said that the early intervention can give me exercises to help with that. It’s something we want to follow up on.

And for the best news!! My boys are OFF the extra calorie milk!!!!! YEAH Which means that I can fully nurse now…no more pumping and adding formula! And she said that if I do decide to use formula to still use the Enfacare but follow the directions on the can (not what they gave me from the NICU to make it a higher calorie). I’m so excited!! Now we can really focus on the nursing side!! :)
